The 6″ auger bit is most commonly used to dig post holes for metal pipe on chain link fencing. On corner posts or gate posts however, you may need an 8″ or 10″ auger bit to achieve the proper anchoring of the fence posts. Additionally, check with your fence post supplier for hole size guidelines.. It’s also a good idea to check local building codes especially if you are placing timbers for a pole building.
